FEATURED PROJECTS
Haydn Street, Blackburn
This house design resulted from a unique requirement to downsize accommodation. The result is compact home set in a large garden, the inverse of current housing trends. The design celebrates honest materials and precise workmanship; rammed earth, polished concrete, ply ceilings & timber cladding.
Winner of Whitehorse City Council '2015 Built Environment Award, Single Dwelling Category'.
Bowden Street, Castlemaine
Set on a hilltop overlooking the Township of Castlemaine to the east, Mount Franklin to the south and sunsets over forest to the west, this house was designed to maximise viewing opportunities and deal with the difficulty of a steeply sloping site. Balconies on 2 levels allow open space to each level. Terrace to rear gives garden to the lower level. A unique response to a challenging site.
Model Lane, Port Fairy
Designed as a home for a growing family, this house is set in a green-field site on the outskirts of Port Fairy. The design incorporates passive solar design and high levels of cross flow ventilation. The house is zoned to create a kids wing with rumpus and separate external decking area. The external profile of the house and outdoor areas were considered carefully to create future landscaping opportunities.
Upper Ryans Creek Road, Benella
This house is located at the bottom of a river valley with the surrounding hills forming a barrier to sun entry in winter. The roof angle was calculated to allow the maximum amount of easterly sun into the dwelling in winter.
The house features rammed earth walls, a polished concrete slab and joinery manufactured from a tree removed from site. Designed to comply with Bushfire Attack Levels of 29.
Rabbages Road, Yapeen
Located on a forested hill in Central Victoria this house has stunning views to the west. To allow these views but minimise westerly heat gain the house has a wide alfresco area facing west to provide shade. The house has a burnished coloured slab, external and internal walls made from stone taken from an old quarry on the site. The house is "Off Grid", with all power, water and waste sourced and contained on site.
Glen Road, Mitcham
This project was an extensive renovation of a 1980's brick veneer house on a very steep slope. Living areas were increased in size and designed to incorporate high-level north-facing windows in a vaulted ceiling. The living areas were positioned to capture a view through the tree canopy across a large new deck. This has transformed the house from a small home with minimal natural light and no connection to yard areas to a large light spacious family home visually connected to existing established native trees and external spaces.
